Written by: GEORGE MICHAEL GREEN, JOHN MELLENCAMP He just made that story up, there ain't no girl like that He tells me a story about some girl he knows in Kentucky The radio is playin, she left her shoes out in the back In the bone colored dawn, me and Gypsy Scotty are singin' Se whispers in his ear, boy, you are my star Gypsy Scotty is driving his big long yellow car Thank you for reading the above. On a moon spattered road in her parrot rebozo Before I go, I want to tag a hundred or so people who… How many of them actually read the people they’re following? Wouldn’t it be better to follow someone only if you have a sincere interest in the things they write, rather than it just being about reaching higher numbers?īut that’s an entirely different rant for another day.Īm I alone in my thinking on this about tagging? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Yes, it’s nice to see those numbers of followers rise, but how good are those numbers if those people are just trying to gain you as a follower in an effort to get their own numbers up? It sort of makes me think of how a lot of people do the “ you follow me and I’ll follow you thing” on places like Medium and Twitter. And yes - definitely tag other writers who you want to give props to for one reason or another.īut don’t just tag for the sake of tagging. Yes - tag your friends, especially if you know they have an interest in the kinds of things you’re writing about. So, I guess what I’m asking here is for writers to maybe ease up a bit on the number of people you tag in your stories. I mean, yes, I wish you a sincere “congratulations” on accomplishing that, but please don’t lump me in with (literally) tons of other people. For example, if someone just got their 5,000th follower and they want to celebrate by tagging all 5,000 of them and I’m included….well, yeah….I’m not going to lose much sleep over not reading it. I’ll be honest, though - sometimes I don’t feel too bad about it.

I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but sometimes I have to ignore some of the things I’m tagged in. That’s why I feel bad sometimes when I don’t look at all of the things I’ve been tagged in.īut it’s hard to keep up with it all, isn’t it? Like everyone else, I only have so much time available each day to write and read on Medium. People want to get as many eyes as possible on what they’re doing. I’m getting tagged repeatedly in publications that I’m not a writer for or even a follower of - often by writers that I don’t even know.Īnd I get it. My inbox and notifications have been going a bit crazy. I kind of brushed it off at first, but it’s happening more and more. On the other hand…I’m not a big fan of getting tagged by people I barely know in things that have nothing to do with me. I like reading things by my friends because they usually have similar interests to me. Most of the time, you are 100% correct and I’m sincerely excited to read whatever it is you’ve tagged me in. Several of you are my friends and I know you tagged me because you thought I’d be interested in your story. First off, I want to say I mean no disrespect to anyone who has tagged me in stories.
